Everything that we\u2019ve worked our lives for, just because the infrastructure unfortunately isn\u2019t up to par,\u201d said Daniel Goodwald, a co-owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within 30 minutes, mechanics and employees had to wade through knee-deep water to save inventory, cars in the shop, and equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe id=\"nxs-video-iframe-11\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto; aspect-ratio: 16\/9; \" src=\"https:\/\/redir1.wfla.com\/nxs-video\/vid-anvato-12027127\/embed\/?autoplay=1&#038;injected_via=embed&#038;post_id=3368997\" rel=\"nofollow\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City of Lakeland provided the following statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThere are many variables and contributing factors that caused areas throughout Polk County to be&nbsp;impacted by heavy rainfall yesterday.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>City staff from the Public Works Department visited flooded areas near Memorial yesterday and today to determine what factors contributed to the flooding.\u00a0Staff found no drainage blockages in the storm pipe systems but noted that the area collects stormwater runoff from the surrounding area.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>City staff will continue working to improve the understanding of what occurred in the area and identify any appropriate next steps.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>While there isn\u2019t immediate information at this time about any specific projects that have been completed to mitigate flooding in this area since Milton\/Helene, improvements have been made in this area, such as\u00a0installing raised grates on top of the inlets to prevent debris from clogging an inlet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;A Lakeland auto body shop is asking the city for help with nearby infrastructure after being inundated with water over two feet high during heavy downpours on Thursday afternoon.
