    2. Central Tropical Atlantic System<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • Status:<\/strong> A broad area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Outlook:<\/strong> Some slight, gradual development is possible early to mid-week while moving westward. However, upper-level winds are expected to become increasingly unfavorable for development later in the week as the system nears the Lesser Antilles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Formation Chance:<\/strong> 20%<\/strong> over the next 7 days (Low).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Season Context<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has had a relatively slow start due in part to a strong El Ni\u00f1o pattern.<\/sup> So far, only two named storms have formed (Arthur<\/strong> and Bertha<\/strong>).<\/sup> If either of these emerging systems strengthens into a tropical storm, it will take the name Cristobal<\/strong>.<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n
