A new emergency room option is now available in Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brandon Regional Hospital has opened a freestanding emergency department at 3526 South Florida Ave., according to a release from the hospital. The ED features 11 private rooms, board-certified emergency medicine physicians, paramedics and nurses with emergency care experience and certifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 10,820-square-foot Lakeland facility accepts patients via ambulance and walk-ins and has an on-site CT scanner, ultrasound, X-ray and laboratory services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is roughly 40 minutes away from BRH’s main campus. The hospital started constructing the facility last June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freestanding emergency centers typically are owned and operated by licensed hospitals. The facilities are not connected to a main hospital campus but offer the same comprehensive 24\/7 emergency services. Patients who need to have an extended stay or further surgeries can then be transported to the main hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The $15.49 million freestanding ER is just one of several projects BRH is working on. The hospital group is also opening a freestanding emergency department in Wesley Chapel this month. On the main campus, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will be expanding onto the second floor. The expansion will add 14 beds and create 8,273 square feet of new space and 14,636 square feet of existing renovation.
