The school has seen multiple cases for students and one Professor has a virus sofar.

“Since the pandemic began, athletics has been focused on the health of student-athletes,” Florida Southern Athletic Director Drew Howard said. “Through enhanced cleaning, mask requirements, physical distancing and more, Florida Southern is dedicated to creating a healthy environment for our student-athletes.”

The school is shutting down practices, tape sessions and any organized team activities while the men’s lacrosse team is tested. Contact tracing is currently underway as well.

The positive tests also come the same day that the Sunshine State Conference, which earlier this year postponed its fall sports seasons until 2021, announced that its winter sports season will also be pushed back to January at the earliest.

That news comes a day after the NCAA said men’s and women’s basketball can begin in late November, but the SSC is being extra cautious.

The SSC will determine and communicate conference schedules and conference championship information in these sports at a later date.

“While we are disappointed, we concur with the Sunshine State Conference’s decision to postpone the winter sports seasons,” Howard said in a press release. “We are committed to returning to competition, and providing an excellent student-athlete experience once it is safe to do so.”

Florida Southern College is shutting down all sports activities after three men’s lacrosse players tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
