<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nIn November, amid growing concerns of COVID-19, The Lakeland Margarita Society (LMS) decided that it would be in the best interest of the health and safety of our community members to not host the 33rd Annual Margarita Ball in person this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The LMS Board discussed opportunities to continue to host the Ball as it had in years past, but a significant portion of the event was made possible through the support of local restaurants who have sponsored the event in the past, many which are struggling to survive in the wake of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn reaching out to our generous restaurant sponsors to gauge interest this year, it became even more apparent just how much the pandemic had significantly impacted them,\u201d said Margaret Parry, event coordinator. \u201cMany are struggling to survive as a business. This event is made possible through their generous contributions and we simply did not feel we could ask our sponsors to give any more than they already have sacrificed this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While The Lakeland Margarita Society is greatly disappointed that the event will not go on in person as planned, our board has orchestrated some creative opportunities for community members to still help
make this Christmas season a little brighter for the underprivileged children in our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The purpose of the Lakeland Margarita Ball has always been to put toys under the trees of those in need within our community. This is solely made possible through the donations of gifts and cash from our community members. Donation levels are available starting at just $25 that directly go towards putting toys in the hands of a child on Christmas morning. One opportunity 2020 has provided us is the chance to pivot, adapt, and remain resilient in the wake of COVID-19. It is because of people like you that this holiday season will be no less joyful on Christmas
