Polk County\u2019s COVID-19 Eviction Prevention Program deadline has been extended through March 15.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program, which opened in mid-February, is designed to provide property owners an alternative to eviction for those affected by the pandemic. The program can provide up to $7,000 in past due rent that will be paid directly to the landlord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landlord will initiate the application process; however, both parties must agree to participate and meet eligibility requirements. To start the process, landlords only need to provide a copy of a W-9 form and ledger showing delinquent payments. Multiple tenants can be submitted under the same application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThose documents can serve as a placeholder to get the application process started,\u201d said Tamara West, Polk\u2019s Housing and Neighborhood Development manager. \u201cWe know it takes time to gather up all the documentation that is required and we want to work with all of our applicants on getting that done. We don\u2019t expect everyone to have all of the information immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the Polk County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution accepting about $21.8 million from the federal government\u2019s approved Emergency Rental Assistance Program. Polk\u2019s share, which was received Jan. 19, is part of a $25 billion program to assist households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the pandemic. The funds are provided directly to the states, U.S. territories, local governments and Indian tribes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
