Lakeland officials implementing stronger COVID policies as cases rise across Polk County.
On Tuesday, Lakeland City Manager Shawn Sherrouse re-implemented face mask requirements for all city employees who are inside or using a city-owned vehicle and unable to maintain a social distance of at least six feet.
In addition, all city employees will have their temperatures screened upon entering any city-owned building. Those individuals who are unable to wear a mask because of medical conditions will be provided with a face mask, according to the policy.
“These protocols are necessary to protect our city workforce,” Sherrouse wrote in his email.
Lakeland has continuously screened all visitors to City Hall for COVID with temperature checks and a questionnaire since the pandemic began. There is no mandate that visitors wear a mask, “but masks are encouraged,” according to city spokesperson Kevin Cook.
Lakeland is not providing any vaccination incentives to its employees at this time, Cook said.
