Definitions:
Homicide the killing of one person by another —- Justifiable and able to be shown to be right or reasonable; defensible.
Cover-up is an attempt to prevent people from discovering the truth about a serious mistake or crime.
A 20-year-old Winter Haven man who had been brought into custody under the Baker Act several times during the past year (2018) was shot and killed by two Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies during a so-called standoff. (March 20, 2018)
Chance Haegele, of 138 Jay Drive, was about 10 feet from deputies when he pointed an unloaded 12-gauge shotgun at them at about 11:30 p.m. in a mobile home park at 96 Laura Lane off Thornhill Road. The deputies fired 17 times from their Glock handguns — hitting Haegele nine times, including 3 shots in the back that killed them.

ME states four of the shots were shot downward – This means he was already below the angle of the gun or he was on the ground
Deputies Reginald Green and Joseph Hicks attempted CPR, but could not save Haegele. (We wonder why) Haegele died from a gunshot wound to the chest area that entered his body from his back, District 10 Medical Examiner Stephen Nelson said.
Neither Green nor Hicks was injured in the shooting.
Haegele’s mother, Christina Haegele, said she repeatedly told deputies the gun wasn’t loaded.
“Don’t shoot my kid, don’t shoot my kid,” Haegele said she told deputies when they arrived.
The shotgun was not loaded, officials said.
“We wonder why”

Does anyone realize how many people are killed
Every year by “unloaded” guns?? Doeas anyone realize the leathality of a 12 guage shotgun at a range of only 10 feet?? Devastating mortal injury to say the very least!! How many would risk their life to stand at point blank range of a 12 guage waiting for the trigger to be pulled to acertain if it was loaded?? If the person weilding the shotgun falls down or spins around does that make the shotgun less lethal?? Police are trained to shoot until the threat is neutralized to prevent injury to others and themselves, would anyone who understands the danger involved with gunfire do any different?? I think not. Prayers and condolences to the family of this young man, but this was obviously a “suicide by cop” and this unfortunate individual knew or expected the result.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. When you give people the power to do what they want, that is exactly what they will do. This was a unnecessary death of a young man that was mentally ill. Unfortunately, people in Polk county are so enamoured of Grady and his men. This and other incidents they easily get away with. Just tragic and sad.

Whether or not anything was covered up ,… Never point a gun…loaded or unloaded at anyone, especially a cop unless you want to get shot.
17 times is excessive but so is the amount of times the kid was arrested due to mental health.
The article should focus on why there was no help provided BEFORE it got to this point.
Technically, the problem started when he developed mental illness in America, bc there’s no help for the middle/lower class for mental health until it reaches a criminal point.

Chance Haegele had no criminal record, not even a parking ticket. If you look at the picture he is NO where near the gun. When someone is baker acted they get cuffed for that; which is not a crime. Yes, the mother is going to continue to fight for her son because it was murder and a cover-up on many levels. Wouldn’t you fight for your child if you knew the facts? If PCSO was so reputable they would gladly wear body cameras.
You pointt a gun at police they fire.they had no proof that gun wasn’t loaded other than his mother saying it wasn’t loaded which any mother that thought that would save her son would say including myself.
You don’t point a gun at law enforcement rather it is loaded or not. Unloaded guns have killed a lot of people.
