An Alabama man who was visiting family in Lakeland was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday evening, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they were called to 10th Street North, just east of Wabash Avenue, to investigate a crash around 9:43 p.m.
According to investigators, a 58-year-old man had been hit by a van. He died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle fled. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2010-2014 silver Dodge Caravan or Chrysler Town & Country Van, Polk deputies said.
Deputies said the van would have been traveling east on 10th Street when it hit the man from behind as he was standing or walking along the side of the road.
