Did you know that Byron Donalds may choose Meg Weinberger as his running mate?
Following his victory in the August 18, 2026 Republican gubernatorial primary, Congressman Byron Donalds faces a time limit of only nine days to select his Lieutenant Governor running mate. There is speculation pointing to State Representative Meg Weinberger will be his choice.
Known as “MAGA Meg”, Weinberger is widely reported to be at the top of Donalds’ shortlist, a position bolstered by her endorsement from President Trump as well as her role in renaming a thoroughfare at Mar-a-Lago. On January, 16, 2026, Weinberger stood alongside Trump at his home in Palm Beach, Mara-a-Lago, as he unveiled the signage of the newly-renamed thoroughfare.
While other candidates like Rep. Kat Cammack and Bryan Avila were also considered, reports indicate Trump has urged Donalds to prioritize Weinberger for the No. 2 slot on the ticket. There have been months of speculation that Rep. Weinberger was on a short list to become Donald’s running mate as Lieutenant Governor. Some elected Republican officials are now stating that they too are hearing an increase in rumors that she indeed will be Donald’s choice.
