Playing a narrow, PGA Tour venue with windy conditions against many of the NAIA’s Top 25, the Southeastern University men’s golf team had a solid showing.
The Fire finished seventh in the 19-team field at the Copperhead course.
Second-ranked Coastal Georgia won the event by eight strokes over fourth-ranked Keiser. Unranked SEU was just two strokes behind 12th-ranked Dalton State, and were eight strokes ahead of No. 16 Thomas and nine better than 11th-ranked Wayland Baptist.
Freshman Matthew Soucinek was stellar in just his second collegiate tournament, tying for fourth with a 54-hole score of 217 on the Par 71 course, shooting 74 in the first round, then 71, and 72. Soucinek had 11 birdies and 13 bogeys in 54 holes.
Landry Miller tied for 32nd with scores of 78, 73, and 76. Pablo Restrepo was solid in his first tournament with Southeastern, placing 44th, making a big move on Tuesday with his best round of 74. Monday, Restrepo shot 80 in the first round, then bounced back with a 76 later that afternoon in the second.
Sophomore Andres Padilla shot 75 in both rounds Monday, and closed with an 80 on Tuesday to finish 44th. Rounding out the scoring was Jacob Soucinek in 67th with a total of 234 (74-82-78).
Next up for the Fire is the Tennessee Wesleyan Bojangles Invitational October 11th through 13th.
