Florida Southern College women’s tennis senior Lola Asis received a No. 14 ranking for singles in the South region, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Wednesday afternoon. The regional ranking is the first in her career for either singles or doubles.

“Lola had a good tournament at the ITA Regionals and earned recognition with her ranking,” women’s tennis head coach Trish Riddell said. “We hope this will be a good incentive for her and other players going into the spring season.”
Asis had a strong start to the 2019-20 season with a promising fall, including a victory against Division-I opponents in Maria Popova of Alabama State in a 6-0, 6-4 contest at the Mercer Gridiron Contest and Teona Velkoska of Southeast Missouris in a 6-2, 7-5 contest at the Hatter Invitational. The senior also had a deep run in the ITA South Regional, defeating Julia Enderink of Auburn-Montgomery in a 6-0, 6-1 blowout and Leonia Nutz of UAH in a 6-3, 6-2 victory. She fell in a tightly-contested 5-7, 7-5, 10-4 match to Karolina Silwanowicz of West Florida in the quarterfinal of the singles bracket.
Asis and the Moccasin women’s tennis team will start the spring season at the UT Round Robin from Jan. 31 – Feb. 2 before taking on Flagler on February 13 in the regular-season opener. The Mocs will have their home opener on February 15 in a conference match against Lynn.
