OVER THE WEEKEND: Late Saturday night Polk County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a mulch / loose timber fire located off of Lasso Lane in southeastern.
PCFR crews have been working around the clock to keep the fire contained and under control. Due to the size of the timber and mulch piles, the fire continues to smolder deep within them.
Depending on wind direction and strength, smoke from this fire could affect driving conditions on the southeastern section of the Polk Parkway, so drivers are urged to use caution, especially during the morning and evening commutes.
PCFR has dumped well over two million gallons of water on the fire and will likely need to continue to douse the fire for the next couple of days to keep it from re-igniting.
Both the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and PCFR drone teams were out on-site over the last two days to assist the incident command with an aerial view of the effected area. They have also been utilizing the drone’s FLIR cameras to help see the hot spots deep inside the piles.
