Billed as the coolest place in town, The Yard on Mass wants to be Lakeland’s perennial gathering spot for food, drinks, music and social networking.
The party begins Friday with an 11:30 a.m. grand opening. Kids and dogs are welcome — perhaps even necessary to the sort of communal character proprietors envision for their venue at the northwest corner of North Massachusetts Avenue and Parker Street.
Patterned after a venue in Boulder, Colorado, The Yard on Mass offers both indoor and outdoor entertainment, depending on weather, time of day and season. The actual “yard” offers customers the ability to sit outdoors, play games, grab a bite from up to four food trucks and imbibe on beer, wine, cocktails and other refreshments.
Another option is to head inside the taproom with a soaring 25-foot-tall ceiling, a handful of large, flat-screen televisions and an L-shaped bar. The 22-tap system will flow with ales and lagers from Lakeland’s Swan Brewing and Winter Haven’s Grove Roots Brewing, among other local and national brands.
Located on the northern edge of downtown at 802 N. Massachusetts Ave., The Yard on Mass is operated by a partnership that includes Craig Morby, a commercial Realtor in Lakeland; Jennifer and Joel Batts of Lakeland; and Matt Patrick of Boulder.
