Southeastern University women’s soccer senior forward Uchenna Kanu continues to make headlines on both the domestic and international scales. Kanu has been listed as one of 10 finalists for the 2019 Confederation of African Football African Women’s Player of the Year, as announced per the league office Sunday afternoon.
Kanu is the only collegiate player to be included on the prestigious award ballot.
The Abia, Nigeria native has netted 39 goals and recorded 17 assists as Southeastern’s top striker this season. Earlier this month, Kanu became the NAIA All-Time Leader in Career Goals Scored and College Soccer’s All-Time Leader in Career Goals Scored at a single division. Kanu is now up to 154 career tallies in 76 collegiate matches played.
This past Saturday night, Kanu netted a goal in the NAIA Opening Round that helped SEU secure a 3-2 win over Cumberlands (Ky.) and advance to the NAIA Round of 16 at the Final Site in Orange Beach, Ala. for a third-straight season.
The list of nominees is compiled by a panel of media and technical professionals. The CAF awards celebrate African footballers and officials who have distinguished themselves during 2019.
The 28th edition of the CAF annual football awards will take place on Tuesday, January 7 of 2020 at Citadel Azure, Hurghada, Egypt.
