Florida Southern College women’s tennis has been picked to finished fifth in the Sunshine State Conference according to the 2020 SSC Preseason Coaches Poll released Friday by the conference office. 2019 National Champion Barry was picked to repeat as champions of the conference with seven first-place votes and 78 points.
Lynn University is the favorite to challenge the Buccaneers in 2020. The Fighting Knights finished second in the poll with 74 points and garnered two first-place votes from conference coaches. Nova Southeastern University follows in third place with 65 points and the final first-place vote. Saint Leo University holds fourth place with 59 points, and Florida Southern College sits in fifth with 49 points. Rounding out the preseason ranking are the University of Tampa (35 points), Rollins College (34 points), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (27 points), Palm Beach Atlantic University (20 points), and Eckerd College (9 points).
The Moccasins will start the season with the UT Round Robin (Jan. 31-Feb. 2) at Tampa, following with the home opener on Feb. 10 against 2019 Gulf South Conference Champion West Florida. The Moccasins will then take on Flagler on Feb. 13 before the conference home opener on Feb. 15 against Lynn. In total, the Moccasins will compete against four teams that competed in the 2019 NCAA Championship and eight that participated in the regional brackets.
