The Florida Southern College women’s and men’s swimming teams were among a record 762 programs from 480 institutions that were recognized as Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the Fall 2019 semester. Teams were selected on the basis of their Fall 2019 grade point averages and represent 17,685 student-athletes.
For the Fall term, the FSC women’s team boasted a team grade point average of 3.53, the 16th best GPA in all of Division II. In all, only 77 programs were named to the CSCAA list, and the Mocs were one of six Sunshine State Conference, and second best, to make the list.
The men, meanwhile, had a team GPA of 3.26, the 8th best in Division II. Only 44 schools were honored by the CSCAA, and the Mocs are one of seven SSC schools to make the list.
Overall, more than sixty percent of the national selections (470 teams) belong to women’s programs. Nearly three hundred men’s teams also earned Scholar All-America honors.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference led the way with eighteen selections (eight men and eight women). The Sunshine State Conference was second with fifteen teams named to the honor roll followed by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (14), and Bluegrass Mountain Conference (11).
To earn the honor, teams were required to post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the Fall Semester and maintain a roster of 12 or more student-athletes.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation’s first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
