On Friday, April 24, 2020, at approximately 4:20 PM, calls came in for a fire at 1416 Lexington Avenue. When crews arrived, flames were showing from the home’s ceiling and firefighters immediately got to work. The home’s residents were sheltering in place in another state, so we’re not at home when the fire started. There were no injuries, however, the home suffered significant damage.
Crews on scene included Tower 15, Engines 11,12,21,51, Rescue 1, Battalion Chief 1, and an ambulance from Polk County Fire Rescue. Neighbors that called in the fire to emergency dispatchers said they witnessed #lightning strike the roof of the house. Investigators and firefighters later determined that lightning was indeed the cause of the fire.
