Starting Monday, Polk County will close Lunn Road for two months to replace six failing metal culvert pipes installed in 1960 with a new single reinforced concrete box culvert to bridge the Lake Drain floodway north of Shepherd Road between Sikes Elementary School and Asherwoods Road in south Lakeland. Road restoration and a new sidewalk with handrail will complete the project. The June-to-August road closure with detour coincides with the school’s summer break. Lunn Road should reopen by early August.
Depending on destination or direction of travel, traffic can bypass the work zone along Shepherd Road, Old Highway 37, Ewell Road and Hatcher Road. Commuting delays are expected.
