| Pursuant to Section 403.077, F.S., the Department of Environmental Protection has received the following Public Notice of Pollution for a reportable release. All information displayed was submitted by the reporting party. Type of Notice: Initial Report Date of Notice: 03/05/2021 Incident Information Name of Incident: McIntosh Treated Wastewater Spill State Watch Office Case Number: 20211211 Start of Incident: 03/04/2021 22:00 End of Incident: 03/04/2021 22:05 Incident Description Lakeland Electric is reporting a treated wastewater spill at the McIntosh Power Plant due to a water level transmitter failure in a cooling tower. The cooling tower utilizes treated and chlorinated reuse water. The water level transmitter in the cooling tower malfunctioned and was reporting a water level much lower than was actually in the cooling tower. This allowed water to continue flowing into the cooling tower. The amount spilled was approximately 2,000 gallons. The spill was wholly contained onsite and did not impact any surface waters. As soon as the overflow was realized, the valve was closed stopping the overflow of water. A work order has been created to repair/replace the failing water level transmitter. During the repair, the system will be placed in manual mode and the water level in the cooling tower will be continuously monitored to prevent additional overfilling.
