Meet Auburndale High School Senior, Jeriel Garcia. He is a 4th-year Architecture student in the Architecture and Engineering Academy. He was asked by his church if he would design a structure to be used as a missionary residence hall and a church for members of the community in Minas De Oro, Honduras.
He made the decision to create the design as his senior project. The week of April 4, 2021, the ground was broken and construction began in Minas De Oro. How exciting it must have been for Jeriel to see his design coming to life. “This has been a great experience. It has opened my eyes to the possibilities in the field I want to go into. It has been such an honor to work with the church and help the people who are in need.” explained Jeriel. “They have been through a lot with the recent hurricanes and floods. It changed my view in the direction I want my career to take. I want to help the people of Honduras build affordable, safe housing. This experience helped to build my confidence. I have been accepted and will be attending USF in their Architecture program starting in June.” It is exciting to see his hard work paying off and construction taking place. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
