A Pasco County teacher has been arrested after investigators say she threw a student across a classroom.
According to an arrest report, Danielle Barton, 42, was working at Chasco Elementary on April 27 when an 8-year-old student began smacking his lips in class. Barton told the student to stop but he continued.
That’s when investigators say Barton grabbed the student’s arm, turned it behind his back, lifted him from his seat and dragged him about 15 feet to a neighboring classroom. Once the two entered the room, Barton threw the child across the ground where he slid about 7 feet on his chest and hit his head on a cabinet, the report says.
Two teachers were in the classroom and witnessed the child being thrown, investigators say. They would report the incident to the school’s principal.
When talking to investigators, one of the teachers said Barton threw the child to the ground “like he was a baseball player sliding into home plate.” The other teacher described Barton throwing the child to the ground “like a sack of potatoes.”
One of the teachers checked to see if the child was hurt and told investigators she heard him say, “that wasn’t fair, she shouldn’t have thrown me.”
Barton faces one count of child abuse.

No, she shouldn’t thrown him, she should have taken to the office and his mother should have called his mother to come and get him. I do not believe in hitting, throwing or any other form of physical discipline. On the teacher’s side please imagine you’re in a classroom with thirty kids and you’re trying to teach and a kid starts smacking his lips and refuses to stop? Would you be happy that 29 children were unable to learn because of one kid won’t stop smacking his lips.
I understand it. Right up to the point when she put her hands on him. She’s a TEACHER and she’s a rather large woman it seems. She could have seriously hurt that child. I’ll bet this isn’t the first time she’d had trouble with him. Had the child been dealt with earlier in the game, it may not have escalated to this. However…. a teacher can NOT be allowed to “man handle” a child unless the child gets physical with him/her. And then, ONLY to the point of restraint.
Last thought… if she did this, thinking it might fly with the authorities, maybe teaching isn’t her strong suit.
I’d like to add that some of what I wrote was simply an assumption and therefore, only a suggestion of what may have taken place.
