| Pursuant to Section 403.077, F.S., the Department of Environmental Protection has received the following Public Notice of Pollution for a reportable release. All information displayed was submitted by the reporting party. Type of Notice: Initial Report Date of Notice: 08/02/2021 Incident Information Name of Incident: Tenth Street and Wabash SSO State Watch Office Case Number: Start of Incident: 08/02/2021 07:30 AM End of Incident: 08/02/2021 07:45 AM Incident Description The City of Lakeland had an SSO event this morning near the southwest corner of Tenth Street and Wabash Avenue in Lakeland. The initial call was received at 7:28 am and crews were dispatched immediately. Crews arrived on-site at 7:45 am, suspected it was the force main coming from the adjacent lift station, and immediately turned off the pumps at the lift station, preventing any further spill. A small berm was built on the west side of the spill to contain any overflow that was flowing that way. On the east side of the spill is a low area that had standing water. Some of the overflows made it into the standing water, but the spill was contained to the immediate area and vac trucks were used to clean all visible traces of the spilled wastewater. The size of the spill was approximately 500 gallons, which was mostly recovered by the vac trucks. Once cleanup was finished, samples were taken collected by our Industrial Pretreatment Technician for lab testing. The cause of the spill appears to be destabilization of the ground (and subsequent breakage of the force main pipe) due to roadway construction activity that is ongoing at that location.
