Legoland Florida Resort is expecting 300 guests on Friday from the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida, which will include more than a dozen families from Polk County.
Merlin’s Magic Wand Foundation, a charity that supports children facing challenges of serious illness, disability, or adversity, is hosting the event. The foundation is operated by Merlin Entertainments, the parent company of Legoland Parks.
“We are so thrilled to invite our families back for the first Family Fun Day in nearly two years,” said the association’s executive director, Heather Barnes.
Families receive a pass to the Legoland theme park and can visit on their own time. There are also special discounts, raffle prizes, and a private character meet.
The event had been canceled during the surge of Covid-19 cases.
“So many families have struggled with difficulties keeping their children quarantined and are unable to comprehend the pandemic, causing secondary issues like depression,” association development manager Amy Drow said. “It is wonderful to finally have one of our favorite days of the year return for our kiddos to bring smiles to many children in need.”
