Incident Description
Possible spill of sewage sludge on US 17 south bound near the intersection of E. Main Street in Bartow FL. The spill covered an area approximately 25 yards X 25 yards at 3-4″ thick. It appeared to be treated wastewater residuals. The initial spill covered both travel lanes and the left turn lane onto E. Main Street. The material was a travel hazard for vehicles / pedestrians heading southbound on US 17. ACT responded and removed the possible sewage sludge from the roadway. They also disinfected the sidewalk, safety railing, and bicycle lane impacted by the spill. Bartow PD and the FDOT Bartow OPS Center provided Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) during the cleanup. Unfortunately, we were unable to identify a responsible party.
