With assurance from its attorney, the Polk County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to change its invocation policy despite opposition from a Central Florida atheist group.
Starting Jan. 1, invocations will be led by one of five chaplains who volunteer with the county’s fire rescue division. The county will no longer allow outside church leaders of various faith groups to lead a prayer or atheists to share a secular message, as has been the practice since 2015.

►Sherri Grimes – Baptist
►Bill Dehart – non-denomination, Pentecostal
►Mike Zarle – Assembly of God
►Patrick Daughtery – ARP Pentecostal
