COVID-19 is overwhelming Polk County at a rate not seen since the last major wave of July through September 2020.
The county’s new infections soared 66.6% in Friday’s weekly update from the Florida Department of Health. With the positivity rate for COVID testing vaulted to 33.8%, to its highest point ever.
The positivity rate rose from 26.1% to 31.81%. Department of Health officials have said that any positivity rate over 10% signals a dangerous level of community spread.
All 67 Florida counties are now deemed at high community transmission, accord to the CDC dashboard.
Polk County registered 355 COVID-related hospitalizations in the past week, the CDC reported. That is an increase of 152% from a week earlier. But the use of intensive-care beds for COVID patients rose only 3.8%.
The CDC defines “fully vaccinated” as having received an initial two-dose regimen of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of Johnson & Johnson. The CDC now recommends supplementary doses six months after the initial round of vaccinations.
The CDC website shows that 30.5% of Polk County residents have received full initial doses and booster rounds. The percentage is 43.4% for those 50 and older and 51.7% for those 65 and older.
Florida registered nearly 398,000 new infections in Friday’s update for a jump of 33.1%. The statewide positivity rate for the week was 31.2%.
Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo has said ,”If you have no symptoms, please don’t get tested.” Ladapo has also provided new guidance in Florida on COVID testing, including: “Individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19, but have no symptoms: COVID-19 testing is unlikely to have any clinical benefits.”
Why are people in long lines in Polk County being tested and causing traffic backups? Are they being paid to get tested? Why test when the tests are inaccurate! Now they are changing testing. Why? They have been caught lying…..again!

Governor DeSantis clearly stated that only HIGH RISK and obvious SYMPTOMATIC will be tested and should be done at your physician’s office and not outside at some drive up parking lot. Let’s talk about the unsanitary parking lots shall we?! If you are not well, why would you drive to a dirty parking lot, sit in your car and wait to have a swab shoved up your nostril? If you are sick, YOU GO TO YOUR DOCTOR TO SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT!
