A Letter to the Mayor and Commissioners,
Friday morning before the City Commission agenda study at around 8:15 am I took these pictures of on-street parking next to the Mirrorton Apartments downtown. I was told by the Mirrorton sales associate that they have 2 parking places per unit and additional garages for rent for 3BR. They have the same mix of apartments as proposed Lk Miriam Apartments: Studio, 1,2,3, BR and they have 24 townhomes allotted 2 parking places plus a garage. Total units 348.
There are no bike parking places.
This is not a fenced-in complex, unlike Lk. Miriam Apartments will be. AND they still don’t have enough parking places to avoid on-street overflow.
Where do you imagine the overflow cars from Lk Miriam Apartments will park?
Is it a good use of City resources to provide on-street parking for developments who don’t provide enough parking?
Furthermore, consider this transportation comparison. The representative from the Citrus Connection said there was no uptick in bus ridership at the stop nearby Mirrorton “because people who can afford those apartments won’t ride the bus”. However, the weekend “Squeeze” golf carts to the downtown amenities are used by the tenants.
I would think this is Competent Substantial Evidence about parking needs and transportation choices. Wouldn’t you?

Lakeland City Commission will vote on a zoning change that would DENY or allow Lk Miriam Apartments to be built. Vote on Monday, June 6 commission meeting starting a 9:00 AM. City Hall 228 S. Mass Ave. 3rd Floor.
