Polk No Kill Coalition, Inc. has had a very difficult, long year. We have more calls for help than we can get to in the foreseeable future and the need is so great. We always seem to be low on money and short on time.
But we will not give up! We are a small dedicated group and we will not be deterred by the naysayers, the County management, or the ridiculous number of people and cats in need. We know that TNVR works and we are ready to tackle 2023.
The picture below is a cat that we have tried to trap in a location in Lakeland for 1.5 years. She was a baby machine, churning out litter after litter, year after year. We know of 4 litters in the short time we were trying to convince her to get into our traps. We TNR’d her babies, but she was wily, smart, and nervous of strangers. It became a mission to get her and……WE DID!! 18 months of work. This is how dedicated we are to the cause. We doubled back to her location, month after month, and finally, she was trapped. No more babies for her!!
This is the dedication we have to our mission and to helping get vet care for the Community Cats of Polk County. Spay/neuter is imperative to curb the breeding. Altered cats are much healthier, do not partake of the nuisance behaviors that make them undesirable neighbors and the population lessens. It has been proven across the country as the only method that does work with Community Cats. Killing them is not a solution. It creates a vacuum effect where more cats will just funnel into the open area. Euthanasia should not be used as population control.
