Neo-Nazis Distribute Anti-Semitic Literature
On Saturday afternoon, a group of six men rode around in a rented U-Haul pickup truck doing the Nazi salute and throwing anti-Semitic propaganda onto people’s lawns before being stopped by the Lakeland Police Department.
Valerie Morrow take photos and videotaped some of the neo-Nazi activity on Saturday. The video, she says was taken on her way home from work when she got a phone call that masked men in a truck threw anti-Semitic literature onto lawns in their neighborhood off Edgewood Drive, Lake Hollingsworth Drive, and Crystal Lake Drive.
It is the second time that a group of people spouted neo-Nazi rhetoric in Lakeland in the past three months.
In December, a dozen neo-Nazis protested outside a benefit arts performance that included men in drag.
A week later local faith leaders denounced the Neo-Nazi message.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, states that “Neo-Nazi groups share a hatred for Jews and a love for Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. While they also hate other minorities, gays, and lesbians and even sometimes Christians, they perceive ‘the Jew’ as their cardinal enemy.”
Lakeland PD identified two of the men in the truck: Burt Colucci, 46, and Jon Minadea II, 52.
Colucci, who has lived in Lakeland in the past, calls himself the “commander” of a neo-Nazi group called the National Socialist Movement.
LPD are reviewing the events to see if any laws were violated while Chief Sammy Taylor acknowledges Neo-Nazi First Amendment rights.
It is illegal to litter and it’s also illegal to ride in the bed of a pickup the LPD did not cite them so far.
