When I was young I remember my grandfather telling me that his mom gave him warm whisky when he was sick. Of course, as a kid, I thought it was crazy that he was given whisky as a kid! Nowadays we are better off sticking with this recipe for adults over the age of 21. I cannot tell you how many times I have mixed up this warm classic beverage for myself or a loved one when feeling under the weather. In truth, I often forget about this drink until someone is sick but there is nothing quite as comforting as a Hot Toddy on a cold night. This cozy libation just seems to warm the soul.
There are so many tasty variations you can try. My favorite is to substitute lemon juice for apple cider. Or try it with Fireball Whisky to really get your motor running!
1 hot tea bag. I prefer a caffeine-free black tea
Steep in ¾ cup hot water
1.5 oz of bourbon or whisky. For this recipe, I recommend Makers Mark 46.
1 tbsp honey.
0.5 oz lemon juice
Garnish with a lemon wedge or cinnamon stick
