Migrant arrested after traffic infraction in Polk County

A migrant from Mexico was arrested after being cited for driving on the wrong side of the road, Polk County Sheriff’s Office say.

Fredy Hildalgo-Villatoro, 30, has now been placed on an ICE hold.

It was at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening when deputies spotted Hildago-Villatoro driving in the northbound lane on Chestnut Road in Lakeland in a gray 2012 Nissan Juke.

Deputies pulled Hildago-Villatoro over for a traffic stop and asked for his name. He told them it was Regino and gave them a false birthday.

The deputy ordered him out of his car once she knew he was lying, and when he refused she attempted to unlock his door.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Hildago-Villatoro then tried to drive away, dragging the deputy a couple of feet in the process.

Other deputies responded to the scene and found Hildago-Villatoro’s abandoned car and tracked him at the residence of 617 Chestnut Road.

He was found by K-9 Zorak. Hildago-Villatoro then tried kicking the dog several times before deputies were able to secure him in handcuffs.

Hildago-Villatoro was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer (LEO), battery on LEO, battery on police canine, resisting with violence, resisting without violence, tampering with evidence, fleeing to elude, false name to LEO and driving without a license.
