Ron DeSantis Suffers Huge Blow in His Battle with Disney

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has seen his favorability drop across the country as his nemesis, Disney, gets more popular.

DeSantis has been engaged in a feud with the corporate powerhouse ever since Disney spoke out against his “Don’t Say Gay Bill” in 2022. The governor signed the bill, which bans the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in certain grades at Florida schools, into law.

DeSantis’ popularity rating has fallen since November and almost half of Americans see him in an unfavorable light, according to a survey by polling organization Navigator.

Over the same period, Disney’s favorability rating has remained high, with people siding with the corporation in its beef with DeSantis and nearly two in three Americans having a favorable view of the media giant.

The majority of people, across all ethnic groups, sided with Disney and believe it is in the right in the Florida governor’s “crusade” against it.

Even worse news for DeSantis is that his favorability rating among Republicans has declined 19 points since November. One in five Republicans sided with Disney, believing the company is in the right.

In an act perceived as retaliation for Disney’s opposition to the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” DeSantis set his sights on the land where Disney World is situated in Orlando, Florida. He attempted to strip Disney of social privileges and tax breaks protected under the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which had allowed the company to essentially run as its own self-governing authority in Florida for more than 50 years.

But Disney managed to legally outmaneuver the governor, who has announced his intention to run for the Republican presidential candidacy in the upcoming 2024 elections.

DeSantis established the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District to replace the Reedy Creek board— but its handpicked, five-person membership revealed their predecessors had signed a deal with Disney in February that severely restricts the new board’s powers and essentially allows Disney to remain self-governing.

In May Disney said it would pull a proposed plan to build a $1 billion corporate campus in central Florida because of “considerable changes that have occurred since the announcement of this project.” If the project had gone ahead, it would have created 2,000 jobs in the state.

Disney has also filed a lawsuit against DeSantis, in which it accused him of attempting to punish the company over its opposition to the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which it argued violated its First Amendment rights.

He reacted by filing a motion to have the judge in the case, Chief Judge Mark Walker, replaced over a perceived lack of impartiality.

DeSantis has said there was “zero” chance that he would back down in his battle with Disney.

“They’re not going to govern themselves. We the people are going to govern,” DeSantis said in New Hampshire during a recent visit. “To put one corporation on a pedestal and let them be exempt from the laws is not good policy.

“It’s not free-market economics and it’s not something that our state is going to be involved in. We will not change from that. They can do whatever they want. I know people try to chirp and say this or that. The chance of us backing down from that is zero.”

  1. I personally do not believe that this polling is correct. I live in Orlando and Disney does not have a favorable standing amongst my peer group nor is experiencing tremendous popularity as your article indicates. It’s clear to me that the LG is anti DeSantis and this is clearly an opinion piece of doodoo!

    2. You must have a small group because in my group it is like 9 of 10 support Disney. The article fails to mention other corporations in Florida that govern themselves like the villages ( the STD capital of US) and strong DeSantis supporters but he
      Is not attacking them. It is pure punishment.

    6. You believe that DeSantis is still in a favorable light in Florida because you and your friends like him. I live in Palm Beach county and there are a lot of people here who are getting fed up with the way DeSantis thinks he is King of Florida. It started during the pandemic. We didn’t mind the DeSantis wanted to keep businesses open. If you want to just stay safe you didn’t go to that person’s business. But when he wanted to stop kids from wearing masks in school and actually yelled at kids who were standing behind him in a photo op because they had on masks was ridiculous. People in The Villages had committed some voter fraud in 2020 and he made sure there was not big media attention to that, but then he pulled in Black Democrats who had been told they could vote so they didn’t know they weren’t supposed to. Right before the midterms he made sure those Democrats were brought in front of the cameras and arrested. The whole thing was to make sure that he could scare black Democrats into not voting against him. And his war on “woke” is ridiculous. Personally I am so tired of hearing that word. I’ve asked people who say it what does it mean and they don’t know it just seems to be a casual for anything they hate is woke. If he gets elected president mark my words we will have a fascist regime in the White House.

I live in Port Richey and lived in Miami most of my life,I would never vote for DeSantis,he’s a dictator and a racist with a Italian ancestry ,he has destroyed Florida and is a dummy filled with hate,once he’s voted out or in prison the way he’s going,like what he did to the legal immigrants he sent to Martha’s vineyards ,it will take a while to roll back all the damage he has done,hypocrite got married at Disney, anyone that messes with Disney is a idiot,With DeSantis it’s only a matter of time before Florida turns into a ghost town,we will be voting him OUT and his chances of being president is 0 just like Trump ???

He is crying all over where he goes that his government would make sure that the left is crushed and killed as if somebody has told him that we want a one party country with an

I haven’t heard either one of them talk about what they were going to do to honestly help the country. DeSantis wants to be America’s dictator and Trump is just being Trump again. To the Republicans out there if you think it’s fine because you’re not black or LBGTQ and you don’t care that he’s banning books, remember that these type of people do not stop once they start hating certain groups. Look at 1933 Germany and how it progressed to murdering millions. Hitler didn’t start out killing Jews Gypsies and LBGTQ people. He started out hating them and slowly got worse. Read the poem by Martin Niemoller First They Came. Read that and see where we’re heading. If you replace trade unionists and socialists with the LBGTQ and black history you can see where we’re going.

Yet he’s spending taxpayers money on this fight with Disney and who’s paying his travel fees he’s doing around the country for his campaign? Who’s paying for the trafficking of immigrants to other states, taxpayers money to all the above. He wants to be like Trump, showing everything he signs and acting tough. I’ll be so happy when this man is gone…..as GOVERNOR and pray he never becomes president ??????

  12. Ron DeSatan says he speaks for the people of FL, I live here and my siblings 7, and only 1 of 8 kids like this man. Where exactly is the money coming from when he is flying all over the place? I know that the Secretary of the state was removed, a few years back for flying on the states plane for personal business. So why is it ok for him to do so? He is allowing jacked up prices for rent and other BS bills that are going to harm the folks with fixed income but still persues them. This is only a few things I could go on but don’t feel is necessary and hope this Satan wannabe has no room in a position of government.

  14. I was born in Florida and raised here. I’m 64. Disney has been a huge part of my life!
    DeSantis is ruining this state! He’s a fascist, bigoted racist and evil man! How could he possibly be a Christian with what he is doing to others that are different than he is. The gays, the trans, women’s rights, blacks… you name it! And he is using our tax money to pay for this fight against Disney, and flying Migrants to other states. What has he done for this state? Nothing!!! And there are quite a few other groups that still have this self governing status like the villages, universal studio, etc.
    He’s just angry because they spoke our about his ridiculous don’t say gay bill. Oh, and what about banning books that teach kids about slavery and civil rights. This is part of history and is important for kids to learn.
    I know quite a few teachers and nobody wants to teach in this state. 50 teachers just resigned in South Florida.
    Not sure why he is running for president. The only people that he would appeal to are white men!
    It’s very sad that we are going back in time and alienating so many people.
    The genz and the millennials could give a Damm about the crap that he is pushing. I hate it also! We need a governor and president who care about everyone and everyone’s rights!

  15. I think Desantis is a big vile person. His terrible homophobia and extreme prejudice against Hispanics is really bad,too. I kow our borders are porous but that is no reason to put Hispanic
    women.children and babies in danger like he did with his. Migrant flights. He is bad,period. Desantis is a far bigger threat to this country because of his racial bigotry and homophobia. We do not need him, especially in the White House.
