Two restaurants were given warnings for violations that included small levels of insect activity during the two-week period.
Lucille’s American Café, 205 3rd Street SW, Winter Haven: On June 7, the restaurant received 14 violations, including four high priority. Among those, the inspector noted five live flies found in the kitchen. The other high-priority violations were for a server touching soiled dishes then picking up plated food without handwashing, and a server placing a lemon in a drink with bare hands. Warnings were issued, and during a follow-up inspection the next day, the restaurant passed with zero violations.
Nutwood, 132 Ave B SW, Winter Haven: On June 7, the restaurant received 11 violations. The inspector noted 10 dead roaches on the premises (a basic violation) and a roach-egg casing under a dish (a high-priority violation). Employees cleaned and sanitized the area. A warning was issued and a follow-up inspection is required. As of June 14, a follow-up was not recorded in the state database.
Remember that in some cases, violations are noted are technical issues not directly linked to hygiene or cleanliness. Remember, too, that broken refrigerators, chipped tiles or fast work may add up to unintended mistakes.
