It’s confirmed that a commercial carrier discussing with city and airport officials the POSSIBILITY of adding Lakeland (KLAL) as a point of destination.
“We are engaged in some conversations where there is a renewed interest in some airlines who are expanding,” Sherrouse said. “Lakeland could certainly become part of their market.”
Sherrouse did not drop the name or give hints as to any specific airline company.
“This will be probably not as robust as we hoped for initially but provide some of the shoehorning for future opportunities,” Mayor Bill Mutz said.

This would be life changing! I fly domestic and international so this would save a tremendous amount of time, money and hassle with getting to and from TPA and MCO. Fingers crossed this happens!
Trying to get to Tampa or Orlando airport is so dangerous traveling I-4. One of the best plans the City of Lakeland could make.
As much as I would love this this would be a terrible idea for multiple reasons. One being that Lakeland is, for the most part, quiet. Bringing this type of traffic would only make this very unbearable to deal with. I live in Lakeland and travel fairly frequently. This would be helpful on many levels but only for those that don’t live near by.
