Incident Description
On December 7, 2023, at 4:06 pm, approximately 5,000 gallons of waste activated sludge discharged onto the ground and into a near-by dry ditch, at the Combeewood WWTF, 426 East Timberlane Rd Lakeland. Further investigation determined that the timers, for the wasting tank blowers, were left off causing the release. The affected areas were treated with lime for disinfection. Approximately 1,500 gallons was recovered and placed back into the collection system. The timers were switched back on and normal plant operations resumed. Clean-up actions were completed at 7:22 PM on December 7, 2023. The discharge did not enter any water bodies nor endanger public health, safety, or welfare.
