Lane closures in both directions are planned for U.S. 92 between Lakeland and Auburndale are planned through Jan. 13 for road maintenance.
As of Tuesday, the left lane eastbound was blocked by traffic cones between Saddle Creek Park and the Polk Parkway. In a report released last week, the Florida Department of Transportation said that maintenance is scheduled to occur from Combee Road to Recker Highway. Lane closures will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. as a contractor reworks the shoulder of the road, DOT said.
The work is part of a routine maintenance project that involves reworking the shoulders and medians to address drop-offs, washouts and high spots, which can create safety issues for motorists if they exit the roadway onto the shoulder, a DOT spokesperson said.
