UPDATE Subsequent to release, CSX representatives contacted Polk County to announce repairs and closure of the Old Highway 37 rail crossing will not proceed as scheduled.
Work will be rescheduled to a later date and will not be done as part of the nearby, successive repair projects underway with road closures.
As part of a series of recent rail crossing repair projects, CSX Transportation (CSXT) will close Old Highway 37 in unincorporated Mulberry north of Bradley Junction starting tomorrow, Friday, February 16. Old Highway 37 will close for three to five days at CSXT’s crossing located just north of the Pebbledale Road intersection. Detour options to bypass closure include County Road 640 (Pinecrest Road), State Road 37, Jamison Road, and Pebbledale Road.
Depending on the destination or direction of travel, detouring could be lengthy for some commuters. Other nearby downline rail crossing closures on Agricola Road are still active with repairs delayed due to a regional single-day work stand-down after a CSX worker was killed on the job Tuesday in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, be alert to detour signs, and add extra time to trips through these areas.
