The Lakeland Black History Festival has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 23, 2024, due to the expected inclement weather over the originally scheduled date.
All are invited to celebrate Black History Month at the annual Black History Festival at Jackson Park on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be many artisan vendors, food trucks, activities, entertainment, and much more for families to enjoy.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their role in US History. Black History Month is the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1975, every President of the United States has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, devote a month to celebrating Black History.
The Black History Festival at Jackson Park (1104 Martin Luther King Junior Avenue) will have many forms of entertainment on the mobile sound stage from dance to spoken word. Inside the Coleman Bush Building, there is a historical display including a dynamic interactive touchscreen experience with information provided by the Lakeland History and Culture Center that highlights some of the early black pioneers who helped shape the Lakeland community.
