The results of the 2024 Florida Lineman Competition are in! The 2024 Overall Journeyman Team Winners Cup was presented to Mathew Brown, Tyler Homan, and Hank Pearson of Ocala Electric Utility.
Winning the Overall Apprentice Award was Dustin Zorn from Lakeland Electric.
This year, 23 journeyman teams (totaling 79 journeymen), 75 apprentices, and 64 judges from 15 utilities participated in the Competition. Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who participated in the Competition this year!
Not many people know but in his first year competing and only being a 5-month apprentice at Lakeland Electric he made one small mistake that cost him this same trophy along with 1st place in another event. He would have walked the stage in 4 out of 5 events and also the overall that year.
He went into this weekend determined to get a perfect score and redeem himself. Not only did he get the perfect score he had the fastest combined time of all of the 75 other apprentices competing and won 1st place OVERALL!
A huge shout out to the entire Lakeland Electric family, it was a special night and you guys being so happy for him made it that much more special. These guys count on each other every day and have such a strong bond that nothing can break, it was heartwarming to see them all just as excited for him as I was. Congrats babe, we are all SO proud of you and you represented our city well
