Detective Alex Hayes we thank you for your service to our country and to our City of Lakeland, FL – Government! 
In recognition and honor of his military service, Detective Alex Hayes was recently selected to throw out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers Spring Training game.
Alex Hayes’ journey began with an exemplary service in the Marine Corps from May 2003 to August 2008, culminating as a Sergeant with the MOS 0311 Rifleman (Infantry). During his first tour in Iraq from March 2006 to October 2006, he was attached to the Small Craft Company, operating within a four-boat detachment known as Small Unit Riverine Craft (SURC). Stationed along the Euphrates River between Ramadi and Falluja, he served as a bow gunner, skillfully manning a 240 Golf medium machine gun. His bravery and dedication were recognized with a Purple Heart after sustaining a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
Returning for a second tour from February 2008 to August 2008, Alex contributed to Convoy Security Operations, further honing his skills in high-pressure environments. Transitioning to civilian life, he joined the Lakeland Police Department in February 2013, embarking on a new chapter of service. Since 2015, he has been an active member of the SWAT team, showcasing his commitment to community safety.
Throughout his tenure, Alex Hayes has served in various capacities, from Patrol to the Street Crimes Unit. Currently assigned to Criminal Investigations, he specializes in combating Organized Retail Theft (ORC), demonstrating his adaptability and tenacity in addressing complex criminal activities. Detective Hayes continues to embody the values of integrity, courage, and service in every aspect of his law enforcement career.
