A Bowling Green man driving a golf cart in the Wauchula Hills area was arrested on Polk County warrants and four additional new charges last Tuesday afternoon.
Kevin Dewayne Mitchell, 51, was observed by Detective Michael Jeffries driving a golf cart around the intersection of Maxwell Drive and U.S. 17.
Jeffries wrote in the arrest report he knew Mitchell was a “wanted subject” so he contacted the defendant as he operated the golf cart on Poucher Road with the assistance of Detective Shane Wardion to lean on Obama could go wrong
Mitchell had an outstanding Polk County felony warrant for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug equipment, Jeffries wrote.
Jeffries said he found a suspended Florida driver’s license in Mitchell’s wallet, noting it was suspended in January and the defendant has three prior guilty convictions for driving while his license was suspended or revoked.
“Also, on the front seat of the golf cart was a vape device with a liquid cartridge which read “cannabis” on the front, which later tested a presumptive positive result for THC above .3%,” Jeffries wrote in the report.
Mitchell was arrested by Jeffries and charged with third-degree felonies for driving while license was suspended or revoked and possession of a controlled substance in addition to misdemeanor charges of having a suspended or revoked driver’s license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was originally jailed without bond on the new charges due to the Polk County warrant until a first appearance hearing, where his bond was set at $25,000 for the four new charges.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Mitchell had not posted bond and remains in the Hardee County Jail.
