Southeastern University’s (SEU) School of Music will hold a special concert where attendees will be the first to hear the music prepared for the choral program’s upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The event will be held on Monday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church (175 Lake Hollingsworth Dr., Lakeland, FL 33801).
The concert will feature Mozart’s renowned Coronation Mass performed by SEU students, vocal faculty and a guest choir from Frostproof High School. There will also be professional solo performances from Jennifer Voigt (adjunct voice faculty), Marissa Beck-Dean (adjunct voice faculty), Ed Bryant (voice professor) and Neil Sherouse.
This event is free and open to the public.
Leading up to their performance on April 13, 50 students from SEU’s choral program will be traveling to New York City alongside their choral activities director, Dr. Daniel Gordon. During the official performance, they will be accompanied by the New England Chamber Orchestra.
“Carnegie Hall is, perhaps, the most prestigious concert venue in the United States, if not the world,” commented Gordon. “Not only is this a tremendous opportunity for our students, but it is also emblematic of how seriously we take what we do here in music education at SEU.”
Gordon and his students were tasked with fundraising approximately $100,000 to cover the cost of the trip to New York City. The School of Music has been raising money through concert ticket sales, in addition to crowdfunding.
