On April 23, 2024, at 12:53 a.m. LPD patrol officers responded to the Sandpiper Mobil gas station on North Socrum Loop Road for a burglary alarm.
The front glass door was shattered, and packs of cigarettes had been stolen from behind the counter. A neighboring pizzeria’s outdoor tables were overturned, and the window was shattered with a tile from the tables, although the pizzeria was not entered.
The same table tiles were used to shatter the gas station’s glass door. K9 Mako began tracking while officers circulated for the suspect. Brandon Wilson (39 years old) was found at a nearby church, sitting near one of the doors, and had the stolen packs of cigarettes on his person.
Video from the gas station provided evidence as well. In addition to the stolen property, Wilson caused thousands of dollars in damage to the businesses. Wilson was arrested and charged with Burglary to a Structure, Attempted Burglary to a Structure, Criminal Mischief over $1,000, and Petit Theft.
