Many Floridians regularly travel to northern parts of the United States to visit friends and family or vice versa. RPM Moves estimates that 810,000 “snowbirds” head to Florida in the winter to escape the cold (and this process is sometimes reversed to escape the hot Florida summers.) As a result, there’s a robust need for budget flights going in and out of Florida for this market. As of the summer of 2024, some Floridians will have additional choices. Let’s take a look:
Allegiant’s New Offerings at St. Pete-Clearwater International and Sarasota Bradenton International Airports: Beginning June 13, 2024, Allegiant Airline will begin offering nonstop service to Evansville Regional Airport in Evansville, Indiana (for $41 one way) and McAllen International Airport in McAllen, Texas (beginning on June 14th for $43 one way.)
Additionally, beginning on June 14th, Allegiant will begin offering a nonstop route from Sarasota Bradenton International Airport to Plattsburgh International Airport (PBG) in New York. One-way fares for this route start at $52.
Avelo Airlines Offerings in Lakeland and Daytona: This one is exciting because it is the first commercial airline going out of Lakeland International Airport (LAL.) The offering will be between Lakeland and Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport on Thursdays and Sundays. One-way fares start at $81.
Daytona Beach added a similar Avelo flight to Connecticut on Wednesdays starting June 12, 2024.
Jet Blue in South Florida and Orlando in the Fall Of 2024 – Long Island: In the fall of 2024, Jet Blue will add flights to and from New York’s Long Island MacArthur Airport via Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and Orlando Airport.
The Long Island routes will begin October 24th and will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The initial promotional pricing will be $49 for a limited time.
