The retailer, which boasts over 500 stores across 15 states, is also facing possible store closures, including a Baton Rouge location in Louisiana, according to The-Sun. Despite a recent attempt to boost its market position by acquiring W.S. Badcock in December 2023, the expected increase in sales hasn’t materialized.
Conn’s financial woes are evident from its sharp stock price drop—down 77% since the start of the year and an additional 18% just this month, Bloomberg reports. Over the past three years, the company has suffered consecutive losses, further stressing its financial stability.
To manage its obligations, Conn’s recently pushed back filing its quarterly financial reports and secured a $25 million loan. Founded 134 years ago as a plumbing and heating business before becoming Conn’s in 1934, the retailer has been a long-standing fixture in the industry.
