I’m contacting you based on concerns for all animals at Polk AC. For the record, I followed this story and responded to the FB post.
It’s is my understanding that if you call Polk AC for animal welfare issues, a report or charges will not be filed.
There was a situation posted on the FB “I Live in Lakeland page- begging for help from anyone who would help her save whatever living cat/ kittens were left in the sun on a 90+ degree day in a cage.
A local rescuer in the cat community responded to her plea and got help. She came to pull the kittens still alive- 1 neurological, 2 ok. The concerned neighbor said she believed they had been poisoned before entering the crate. When the officer showed up, the 1 mother and 1 baby kitten were the ones dead.
The officer told the woman who was the concerned neighbor-that the dead ones in the crate were to be left to the person whose bags was in the property and she was to dispose of them. They were buried with no toxicology reports done.
The property owner who did this was never questioned. She had zero reports and that woman pretty much got away with this.
This is Polk. People try to rescue kittens that know they will be killed and by word of mouth- they know what people have told them. Zero consequences. Animal cruelty is not charged.
This is the worst I’ve ever seen.
Please be a voice.
Anyone affiliated with a rescue cannot speak out against AC without major ramifications like, you will never be notified of a found cat or you cannot pull from the shelter.
This is a gag order. Please help animal advocates in this community. We need Best Friends at AC. We need transparency and honesty. We need less deaths!
