A 60-year-old man, Jimmy Lee Doss, was arrested for grand theft after taking an iPhone that a young woman accidentally left behind at a Dollar General in Lakeland.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 19th. The woman forgot her iPhone 13 at the checkout counter after paying for her items. Doss saw the phone and, instead of turning it in, took it for himself.
The victim quickly realized her mistake and contacted both the store and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy reviewed the store’s security footage and spotted Doss still outside the store. When confronted, Doss offered conflicting stories about how he got the phone.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with grand theft. This marks Doss’ second arrest this year. The stolen iPhone was returned to its rightful owner.
