The One I Stood Beside is a heart-wrenching and uplifting love story of best friends and the lengths they would go to for one another. You do have some typical best-friend love story tropes, like secretly being in love with one another and refusing to tell the other, everyone knowing but them, fake marriage, and… I won’t say the others as they are most definitely spoilers… I loved feeling like I was right smack dab in the middle of their love story, with the writing of Piper Rayne being so vivid that I’m transported right into the heart of the family. I fell for the Plain Daisy Ranch cast in book one, and this book has rightly solidified my feelings. I cannot wait for the next two stories to pull us into the hearts of the remaining brothers, and I especially cannot wait to see everyone happily in love when it’s all over.
