Kim-Marie Noble has been moonlighting as the lead singer of a cover band for the last five years. Now she hopes to use her voice differently, speaking for Lakeland residents as a candidate for Lakeland Commission District D (southeast).
Noble declared her intention to seek the seat in November’s election on Monday, filing candidate paperwork that sets up a November matchup against incumbent Mike Musick.
She said that, among other things, last November’s elections inspired her to run.
Noble has been a Lakeland resident since 2007, Noble said she wants to use the City Commission to reach people in Lakeland concerned with high rents and provide care for those with special needs children.
Musick confirms another run: Musick said he is not familiar with his opponent but “admires those that are willing to take the time to dig more into our city and be willing to help.”
“I am running for reelection,” he said. “I encourage everyone to get more involved in our great city. Running for a local election is amazingly difficult and time-consuming but is also amazingly rewarding.”
Noble’s plan: Noble is still developing her platform and her website, which she says will dive further into her stances on issues and list public appearances she plans to make.
Until then she plans to raise money for her campaign.
She will also continue her work as a waitress at Chili’s and as a voice-over recording artist.
And she will keep singing cover songs with Proper Wednesday (named for Proper Whiskey No. 12 and the band’s Wednesday rehearsal days), which performs horn-laced hits from K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Tina Turner and others.
“I look forward to the challenge,” Noble said of the election.
